Cleveland, September 6th, 2023- Webcam-collected performance measures using AI function are reliable and valid assessment tools for neurodevelopmental genetic syndromes, according to a study published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Thomas Frazier, study author, said, “This is a major step forward for early identification and treatment of neurodevelopmental conditions and other child mental health concerns, as it provides the opportunity to remove subjectivity from the process of tracking outcomes and treatment effectiveness.”
Utilizing a novel clinical measurement technology featuring online, webcam-collected and AI, researchers studied the use of this more accessible tool for evaluation in the neurodevelopmental space. Among the study’s key findings:
- All measures could be collected at-home within 25 minutes, even with very young children with complex conditions.
- Adequate to excellent reliability was observed across all measures.
- Key measures produced stable scores over a four month period indicating that positive changes could be interpreted as real improvements in patient health status.
Webcam-collected performance measures appear to be a reliable and potentially useful method for objective characterization and monitoring of social and cognitive processes in children with neurodevelopmental conditions and other child mental health concerns.
